Rome: a bus carrying Hungarian teenager crashed and burned on a highway in Northern Italy, killing 16 people, a firefighter, Saturday.

Some of the 36 injured were taken to hospital after the accident near Verona on Friday night, which happened when a vehicle crashed into a pole and caught fire, according to emergency workers.

A French bus driver, along with his family, could be one of the victims, said Italy news agency Agi.

The bus was carrying about 50 passengers, most of them are Hungary between 16 and 18 years old, said, firefighters.
AGI also reported that a bus returning from a school trip to France.

Police hope the approval of prosecutors to examine the remains of the charred bus.
